The Big 3
The three main supermarkets in Subiaco for grocery shopping are of course Coles and Woolworths near the Subiaco train station and Farmer Jacks in Crossways Shopping Centre on the corner of Bagot and Rokeby Roads. All three shops have a good range, good prices and friendly staff. Parking at Coles is particularly good… plenty of underground parking and no messing around with tickets. Stay for up to 3 hours for free. Coles is the newest store and is spacious, clean and well laid out with wide aisles. Woolies is well located too, well designed and well stocked with 1 hour free underground parking. Farmer Jacks is a smaller supermarket opening late every night. It has excellent fruit and vegetables, plenty of local produce and good quality organics. There’s easy parking close to the supermarket, free for an hour. Bakers Delight, The Meat Safe (butcher), Urban Soul Food (delicatessen) and Moe Sushi are all conveniently opposite the Farmer Jacks store.
Gourmet Groceries
If you thought that was pretty much it for grocery shops in Subi then think again! There are three gourmet grocery stores in the suburb too, all specialising in different ranges. Take Growers Lane on Salvado Rd for example. Highly rated by their customers who say they have wide range of well priced products… especially fruit and veg and bread. The cheeses are great there as well and so is their Asian gourmet produce. Little Petra is opposite the Coles store in Hood St and specialises in extra virgin olive oil from their Olive Grove estate, skincare and antipasto gourmet foods. Simon Johnson Providore on Rokeby Rd have fine foods including a wide selection of cheeses, crackers, biscuits, chocolate, condiments, oils and homewares.
Fresh Veges and More
For fresh fruit and vegetables, dried goods and Asian vegetables all at very good prices; come to Golden Choice Fresh Market on Roberts Rd. If vegan products are important to you then La Vida Vegan on Coghlan Rd is very highly recommended by their regulars who are so pleased to have a vegan store in their area. In fact it is Perth’s only vegan grocery store! If you need Japanese groceries then head to Fuji Mart near the train station in Subiaco Square. Customers come from outside Subiaco to shop here because they are so impressed. Friendly staff and an enormous selection of everything Japanese… including alcohol!
Subi Farmers Market
To round out your grocery shopping experience in Subiaco there is one more special place to visit. It is only open on Saturday mornings between 8am – 12 noon. It is of course the vibrant Subi Farmers Market on Bagot Rd in the Subiaco Primary School grounds. It is a very popular busy market with plenty of vendors. You will find fresh produce, bakers, butchers, fishmongers, cheeses and organics. Live music and breakfast stalls add to the local community atmosphere. Come on down!
